چکیده
Diblock copolymers comprising crystallizable poly(3-caprolactone) and poly{2,5-bis[(4-methoxyphenyl)oxycarbonyl]styrene} (PMPCS) were synthesized by ring-opening polymerization of 3-caprolactone and subsequent atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of MPCS. The molecular structure of the copolymers was confirmed by H NMR spectroscopy and GPC. Kinetic study of ATRP showed that the polymerization proceeded in a controlled way up to high conversions. Three series of diblock copolymers were obtained with relatively narrow polydispersity indices (PDI%1.11) and PCL blocks of 8000, 12,900, and 22,800 molecular weights, respectively. The existence of microphase separation was identified by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and directly observed through transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The melting behavior of PCL block was significantly affected by the length of PCL block and composition of PMPCS. The thermotropic liquid crystalline behavior was examined by polarized optical microscopy (POM) and DSC. The result showed that the diblock copolymer exhibited liquid crystalline behavior when the degree of polymerization (DP) of PMPCS block was not less than 44. q 2005 Elsevier Ltd. A series of novel rod–coil diblock copolymers on the basis of mesogenjacketed liquid-crystalline polymer were successfully prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization from the flexible polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) macroinitiator. The hybrid diblock copolymers, poly{2,5-bis[(4-methoxyphenyl)oxycarbonyl]styrene}-blockpolydimethylsiloxane, had number-average molecular weights (Mn’s) ranging fr...

Liquid crystalline diblock copolymers with different molecular weights and low polydispersities were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and 2,5-bis[(4-methoxyphenyl)oxycarbonyl]styrene (MPCS) monomers. The block architecture (coilconformation of MMA segment and rigid-rod of MPCS segment) of the copolymer was experimentally confirmed by a combination...
متن کاملSynthesis and Characterization of A New Series of “Mesogen-Jacketed Liquid Crystal Polymers” Based on the Newly Synthesized Vinylterephthalic Acid
The synthesis and characterization of a new series of mesogen-jacketed liquid crystal polymers, poly{2,5-bis[(para-substituted phenyl)oxycarbonyl]styrene}s, based on 2-vinylterephthalic acid are reported. These polymers formed very stable liquid crystal phases above the glass transition temperatures. A brief comparison of the properties of the new polymers with those of some previously reported...
متن کاملMesogen-jacketed liquid crystalline polymer with flexible dicyclopentyl terephthalate as side group
For the first time the flexible cyclopentyl ring is used to build mesogenic units, and thus a novel mesogen-jacketed liquid crystalline polymer (MJLCP) poly(dicyclopentyl vinylterephthalate) is synthesized. The polymer forms a stable mesophase which changes to an isotropic phase at 2678C. The formation of a stable mesophase may be attributed to the spatial interaction among flexible side groups...
